SEE AND BE SEEN

  What is the new Cam2Cam?

The new Cam2Cam is a different version of the old Cam2Cam which allowed viewers with webcams to broadcast to the chathost. The old version required the user to download the latest version of IFCam and ensure they were running the same version as the chathost. Now all that is required is that the viewer and chathost have the latest version of the common Flash Player plug-in.

How do I use the new Cam2Cam?

Viewers: Viewers must be a VIP member in a pay session to use Cam2Cam. First, make sure you are NOT running IFcam or any other software which may be using your webcam. The viewer starts by clicking the link that says: "Click Here to activate and transmit your live webcam stream to..." If you do not have the most recent Flash plugin, you may see a popup asking if you wish to install the Flash Player plug-in. Click yes to install it. If you are on a dial-up connection it may take a few seconds for the stream to begin. You will then see a pop-up that says "Allow ifriends.net to access your camera and microphone?" Click the allow button and you should see yourself on the screen. You should then let the chathost know that you are sending video and that they should click the link on their side to see you. Note: You are only sending video, not audio.

Chathosts: In order for viewers to see the link for Cam2Cam, chathosts must select the checkbox to allow this option. The checkbox is on the second page of the signin form right under your screenname. Checking this will provide a link the viewer can click to start sending video to you. However, viewers must be a VIP member in a pay session to use Cam2Cam. Chathosts should wait until after the viewer has started broadcasting before attempting to view the video feed. Once the viewer is broadcasting, click the 'Other Options' link. Then click the View Member's Video link. You will be prompted to enter the viewers screenname. It is important you type it in correctly. If the viewer screenname includes underscores or dashes, use underscores or dashes. The letter "O" might actually be the number zero ... the letter "I" might actually be the number one, etc. Just like the viewer, you may need to install the latest version of the Flash Player to see the video. If you see the pop-up asking to install it, click Yes. After the Flash Player installs you should be able to see the viewers video.

I used to use the IFCam version of Cam2Cam, can I still use it?

At this time we are only providing the ability to use the new version Cam2Cam. Viewers should NOT be running IFCam to use Cam2Cam. While the viewer could still run IFCam, the chathost has no way to view the feed. The IFCam version may or may not be available in the future pending the results of our beta test.

ISSUE: When trying to view or send video I see a blank or white window and do NOT see any video.

Viewers should NOT be running IFCam. Only chathosts should be running IFCam or Livestream.
To ensure your video is not being blocked by a firewall or your ISP, you should run this port test.

NETSCAPE USERS:
Certain versions of Netscape may have problems detecting or downloading the Flash player. Click Here to get the latest Flash Player for Netscape. After it is installed, close the blank window and try viewing or sending video again. If this still does not solve your problem, try using Internet Explorer.

INTERNET EXPLORER or AOL USERS:
It is possible your browser is not able to automatically download the latest Flash player. Click Here to get the latest Flash Player for Internet Explorer or AOL. After it is installed, close the blank window and try viewing or sending video again.

ISSUE: I'm having trouble hearing the sound from the chathost when I use Cam2Cam.

When a viewer is sending video to the chathost, more bandwidth on both the viewer and chathost side are being used. Users with a dial-up internet connection may see a reduced performance of video or audio when running Cam2Cam.
